THE MAVERICK BATTALION MISSION & PHILOSOPHY

WE DEVELOP THE FUTURE MILITARY, CORPORATE,
AND POLITICAL LEADERS OF AMERICA

ARMY ROTC seeks Scholars, Athletes, and Leaders.

ROTC ScholarsROTC AthletesROTC Leader

Our mission is to enroll quality prospects, retain quality cadets, develop confident and competent leaders, in order to commission high quality second lieutenants for the United States Army.

     The Maverick Battalion Philosophy.

     1.  ACADEMIC FIRST.

Take care of your academics.  If in trouble, get help early.  Your primary mission while in college is to obtain a Bachelor's degree.  Without it, you will not be able to commission anyway.  Get the highest GPA you can, 40% of your national rank in ROTC depends on your GPA.  The higher it is, the better the odds of getting your first pick in component (active duty, reserve or national guard) and branch (infantry, military intelligence, etc...)

     2.  HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Drug free and alcohol free.  If you drink, drink responsibly, always be with friends that will help you.  If you get in a "jam" call a fellow cadet or another friend, or even an ROTC faculty member, we will come an get you.  NEVER get behind that wheel if you had something to drink.  It is the easiest way to finish you college career, get disqualified from ROTC, terminate you or your friends life, and worst of all, terminate the life of someone who had nothing to do with your mistake.  Finally, remain physically fit.  Not only for the sake of your health, but it is proven that you will have more energy that will help you get thru the day.  Your Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) counts for 15% of your national rank in ROTC.  It is also a percentage of your semester grade for ROTC.  We do Physical Training (PT) 3-days a week, usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 0600 to 0700, but some of you need to do additional PT on your own.  You must also pass the APFT test to remain eligible for your ROTC scholarship and other benefits.  By the way, getting enough sleep at night always helps your performance the following day.

     3.  ROTC COMMITMENT

ROTC is designed to take very little of your time outside of class.  Participation in the cadet teams is voluntary, and your instructor will suspend you from participating in the team(s) if your GPA is suffering.  However, unexcused absences will count against your grade.  You should expect to spend a little more time every year, as your ROTC classes prepare you for summer camp and commissioning.

     4.  OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

Be part of your campus life.  We have cadets that are cheerleaders, mascots, compete in their school teams, and are part of student government.  Many cadets are not only members of other clubs, sonorities, and fraternities, but are also part of the leadership of those organizations.

     5.  HAVE FUN

This is college, have fun, but take care of your primary responsibilities.
