The best of both worlds... The Corps of Cadets at the University of Texas at Arlington is unique. You are part of a rich military tradition dating back to 1902, yet you maintain focus in academics. The Corps and ROTC are designed to provide you with a quality leadership training that will serve you well in the military or civilian jobs, yet not taxing your time away from academics.
Housing. The cadet residence hall is Trinity Hall. However, as long as you do not have a housing scholarship, you can stay anywhere you want to, on or off-campus. The intent is for the cadets to participate in a common-interest group that fosters peer counselors and mentorship, not only in the military arena but also in the academic environment. The dorms are controlled by the university housing division not the military cadre. There are no inspections, yet cadets are entrusted in maintaining their own discipline, professional courtesy, and honor code. Military cadre only gets involved if requested by the university housing division. Physical Fitness. PT is conducted Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 0600 to 0700 at the Maverick Stadium. PT is mandatory for all contracted and scholarship cadets, including the housing scholarships, yet all cadets are encouraged to attend. For more information refer to the physical fitness web page. Military Science Class. Classes are once a week for freshman and sophomores and twice a week for juniors and seniors. For more information refer to the Curriculum web page. Leadership Lab. The leadership lab is conducted every Thursday from 1400 to 1700 hours. Labs are planned and executed by the cadet officers under the supervision of the cadre. Every lab stresses the use of the cadet chain of command and includes training like land navigation, squad tactics, combat water survival training, and troop leading procedures. Field Training Exercises. Every semester cadets participate in a 3-day field training exercise. Depending on the location you can expect to participate in day and night land-navigation, obstacle course, quick-reaction drills, garrison operations training, a rucksack march and conclude with a live fire exercise with the M-16 or M-4 Army rifle. Social Events. Not everything is tactical. We strive to develop the whole person concept and participate in various social functions throughout the year in which cadets wear their class A uniform and interact with alumni, university officials, VIPs, and each other n a social setting. See the social events web page for more information. Cadet Teams. The Corps of Cadets has 6 extracurricular teams. They are: Color Guard, Sam Houston Rifles, Ranger Challenge, Carlisle Cannons, I am a Maverick, and the Honor Guard. Membership is completely voluntary, but if your grades begin to suffer, the PMS or Commandant will suspend you from the team until your grades improve. See the Cadet Teams web page for more information.
Finally, each of the participating universities have a
variety of athletic, social, and extracurricular activities.
Cadets are encouraged to participate and become active in the
many opportunities available to them. However, ACADEMICS
COME FIRST. |
