Whether
you're in high school, college, or
already enlisted in the Army, you
can start your journey to becoming
an Officer right now.
Follow the steps outlined below to
Enroll in the ARMY ROTC program at
the University of Texas at Arlington
an Join the Maverick Battalion.
Remember that you
can take Army ROTC Basic Courses
without a military commitment, yet
still reap the benefits of becoming
a cadet.
To enroll in ROTC:
-
You must be a full-time student, which is typically 12 or more
hours each semester and progressing towards an accredited degree.
-
You must be academically aligned. We count from graduation day
and work backwards. In other words, a Junior or MSIII would have 4
semesters remaining until graduation and a sophomore would have 6 semesters
remaining until to graduation.

You must maintain a cumulative and semester college GPA of 2.0 (on a
4.0 scale) for non-scholarship enrollment and above a 2.5 GPA for
scholarship eligibility.

And to be eligible for a scholarship you must have a minimum of 920 on
the SAT or 19 on the ACT.

You must be of good moral character, someone who has not been
convicted of domestic violence or similar proceedings.
-
Your must have no civil convictions, adverse adjudication,
court marshal conviction, or other than minor traffic violations
resulting in a fine of $250 or more.
-
You must be a U.S. citizen with a U.S. birth certificate or other documents
establishing citizenship.
-
To be medically qualified for the freshman and sophomore classes,
you only need a health certificate (DAForm 3425R) from the campus
health clinic. To be medically qualified for the junior and senior
ROTC classes, you must pass a Department of Defense Medical
Evaluation Review Board (DODMERB) physical.

You are eligible if you have never used an illegal substance or drug. You may get a
waiver to join if you used illegal substances or drugs only on an experimental or
limited basis over 6 months ago.

You are eligible if you are not a conscientious objector, who is someone who
cannot or will not use a firearm to defend his or her self or country.
-
You are eligible if you do not have any tattoos that are specifically prohibited
by Army policy such as a tattoo/brand on the face, neck, or head or other
tattoos/brands that are visible and that detract from a soldierly appearance
and are prejudicial or detract from good order and discipline.

Age must be at least 17 to contract and less than 30 at the time of
commissioning, which can be waived for non-scholarship students up
thru age 32.

STEP 1: LEARN ABOUT ARMY ROTC.
Consider all the information
provided in this website as well as the ARMY ROTC
website. Talk with anyone you know who is an officer
in the Army and/or has participated in the Army ROTC
program. |

STEP 2: IF A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT AND WANT TO APPLY FOR A
FOUR-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP.
Make sure you are familiar with the Four-Year
Scholarship requirements. It is best if you start
the process during your Junior year.
Apply for
your scholarship either on-line or by mail.
Contact the Enrollment
and Scholarship Officer for your interview during
the fall of your Senior Year. You will also be
required to pass a Department of Defense Medical Review
Board (DoDMERB) examination and a
Physical Fitness Test.
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR SATs or ACTs.

STEP 3: IF NOT ALREADY THERE, APPLY AND GET ACCEPTED AT
ONE OF THE PARTICIPATING COLLEGES.
The University of Texas at Arlington is the Maverick
Battalion host school, however, you can still enroll in
the program if you attend one of our partner schools.
Visit the links under participating schools for specific
registration information in the individual schools.
If not already DoDMERB medically qualified go to your
school health clinic and get a medical check-up. Download the Medical Fitness
Statement (DA 3425), this is part of the packet that you
will download in step 6 and
pre-fill as much as you can before you get to the
clinic. UTA cadets do not have to pay for it since
it is covered in your lab fees. Non-UTA cadets may
have to pay for it in-lieu of lab fees.
Either mail, fax, email (scan), or bring the form to the
enrollment officer. Make sure you keep a copy for
yourself.

STEP 4: IF IN COLLEGE ALREADY OR A TRANSFER STUDENT AND
WANT TO APPLY FOR A 3-YEAR OR 2-YEAR SCHOLARSHIP
Download the ROTC Campus-based scholarship packet and
fill it out. Contact the enrollment officer an
email a copy of the completed packet. Make sure
you keep a copy for yourself.
IF YOU ARE A COLLEGE
SOPHOMORE, CONTACT THE
ENROLLMENT OFFICER IMMEDIATELY! YOU MAY NEED
TO ATTEND THE SUMMER LEADERSHIP TRAINING COURSE BEFORE
YOU BEGIN ADVANCE ROTC COURSES. |

STEP 5: IF AN ENLISTED SOLDIER APPLY FOR THE
GREEN-TO-GOLD PROGRAM
The Army Green to Gold program is
designed to offer Enlisted Soldiers in the Army the
opportunity to earn a commission as an Army Officer.
Deadline for packet submission is April 1st.

STEP 6: FILL OUT THE ROTC ENROLLMENT FORMS
All the forms have been packaged in one excel
workbook. Make sure you fill the
appropriate worksheets. Rename the
worksheet with your "last name, first name, middle
initial", save a copy and email the workbook to
the
enrollment
officer.

2. Fill the initial page. It will
save you work, since it will pre-fill a lot of
the common fields in the other forms.
3. Fill the Cadet Enrollment
Form (CC 139-R)
4. Fill the Planned Academic
Program Worksheet (CC 104-R)
5. Fill the Briefing on Government
Briefings (CC-136-R)
6. Fill the
Authorization for Access of Student records (CC
137-R)
7. Fill the Medical Exam if you do not
have a DoDMERB medical already (CC 3425)
3. Fill the DoDMERB Medical History Report
if you do not have a DoDMERB medical already (CC
2492)
4. Have the APFT card ready for your
grader if you are taking the APFT before the
semester starts (CC
137-R)

Instructions:
1.
Fill out the forms truthfully and to the best of
your knowledge.
2.
Fill them out in order; cadet, 139R and 104R
(look at the tabs on the bottom of the page.)
3.
For boxes, place a upper case X in the box next
to your answer.
4.
When you are finished select
save as: (press F12)
and name the file with your last name, first
name.
5.
Once this is done email it to LTC Smith at
armyrotc@uta.edu.
Use the subject line “interested prospect
(last name, first name).

If you are beginning Advanced ROTC, are a scholarship winner, or are ready
to contract as a non-scholarship sophomore make sure you
are familiar with the
contracting requirements and commitment and fill out
the appropriate forms.

STEP 7: REQUEST A PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR HOUSING
(UTA students only)
If you are a UTA student you can also apply for an ROTC
UTA Housing Presidential Scholarship. Do not
forget to apply for
UTA housing
as well and request an ROTC room at Trinity Hall. We will notify
you and the University if you are approved for a housing
scholarship and will pay the bill. Remember that
if you are a scholarship recipient you must validate
(contract) your scholarship before we pay the bill.
Download and fill the
UTA ROTC
Housing Scholarship Application and the
UTA ROTC Housing Scholarship
Agreement. Return both signed documents to
the enrollment and
scholarship officer as soon as you
can.

STEP 8: GET READY TO ATTEND THE BEST LEADERSHIP COURSE
IN AMERICA
Make sure you keep a copy of all the paperwork, you
should bring it to your first day of class as well.
Start doing physical fitness, push-ups, sit-ups, and
running. Get ready, you are about to begin one of
the most challenging and rewarding programs of your
life. |
